The company Mercitalia Rail S.r.l. transports chlorine in road semi-trailers that comply with the requirements of the ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), loaded on the “Modalohr” railway wagons of the Alpine Railway motorway, between the terminals of Turin Orbassano and Aiton (France).
Chlorine, identified with UN number 1017, is classified by the RID (Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail) – chapter 3.2 (lists of dangerous goods) – table A, in class 2 (gas) with classification code 2TOC (liquefied gas, toxic, comburent, corrosive).
The consultancy assessed whether this type of transport complies with the requirements established by the RID (Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail), 2017 edition, which is the Annex to Appendix C of the COTIF (Convention on International Carriage by Rail).
